Crafty time...

Hello folks!  My name is Jennie AKA Mama, Maman, Mummy (you get it :-)) i have a son who is 6 years old and a 2 year old daughter and to them I’m the most imperfectly perfect mama! This is the first time I’ve ever put pen to paper…or should i say text to laptop and written a blog! Since moving to Alicante, almost 3 years ago I embarked on a profession that I had never thought about doing and that was an Assistant Teacher in a well known English/Spanish nursery.  To my surprise, I really fell in love with my job (I think the children had a big part to do with that :-)) and it encouraged my creative side and even tested it at some point. So, since lockdown my love of crafts and games hasn’t stopped…fortunately for me, my two children are a good excuse to find and learn new skills.  Not only is it exciting for me to see their little faces all happy with amazement but also to see how proud they are of their achievements. I found myself the past few weeks planning different activities for each day including making homemade McDonald’s (which was a hit ha), we’ve made a shadow cinema using just a box, parchment paper and a torch, we’ve flipped over our table and wrapped cellophane around the legs to paint, used spaghetti and cheerios as a counting tool, played nerf gun maths games, used marbles and paint in a box to make a beautiful picture, stuck plasters on a teddy bears cuts and bruises, filled a glass bowl with salt and used a paint brush to search for hidden pictures to name a few! But most of all

we have had a lot of fun and laughter. Encouraging a child’s Imagination is one thing, but helping them build their skills through play is another. This blog is really to show you that with a little creativity and household items you can keep the children busy for hours! I keep a box full of recyclable items such as toilet/kitchen rolls, egg and cereal boxes - you name it!  I recycle them all with little crafty hands.  I then trowl the internet and pinterest for inspiration.  Since my children have 4 years difference, I try to find things that they will both enjoy doing together, although it’s not always the case but, for example; a game which I know my 6 year old is capable of doing may be beyond my 2 year old‘s abilities but she is a trier and always seems to prove me wrong! So the next time you are throwing away any empty boxes KEEP THEM!  They can help your sanity!

I don’t currently have an instagram page with all of the crafts and games we have made over the past few weeks however, I have attached some photos and maybe something will pop out for you to enjoy making with your little locked down superheroes!  Just think, you could even use these as gifts to send to family members or the children’s little friends.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my first ever blog and I wish you all a safe and memorable time with your loved ones.
